Wake up call.

May 26, 2009

Milla is a morning person unlike her mum. So when she wakes with her excited squeals and new consonant sounds (usually ‘Da-da’) I am known to make a bit of a fuss and cries like ‘Nooooo, just 30 minutes more pleeease!’ can be heard by all in the house.
It has come to my attention though that tiredness is a state of mind. Certainly not the newborn stage kind of tiredness, but my kind. If Milla wakes at 7:30am (this is her sleep-in) my groaning is replaced with a ‘yes!’ and I clamber out of bed like an old lady. If she wakes at 6:30am I moan and groan like a child, hide in the doona and just will her back to sleep – hopeful for mother-daughter telepathic abilities, then clamber out of bed like an old lady…and if that isn’t bad enough -you don’t even want to hear about the 5:30-6am protest!
My husband has been on leave for the past few weeks and has observed and passed comment on my childish, early morning objections. He laughed that 30 mins should make a difference to how tired I am and I kind of agreed (in my mind – never openly).
The next morning I was amazed that Milla, for the very first time, slept in to a glorious 8:30am. I pumped the air, ‘yes!’ and this time I sprang out of bed. Once the morning feed was done we went around to open the curtains and that’s when I realised the sun was not yet up. I then discovered the kitchen clock read 6:30am. I gasped and a wave of tiredness came over me. I walked into our bedroom and there was my husband laughing hysterically at his own wonderful joke.

  1. I absolutley love it, that is a hilarious joke. Of course I wouldn’t be impressed if it was me either because I am exactly like you. I used to love my sleep ins and now I curse at the early mornings and just want another 5 more minutes.

  2. That is such a husband thing to do!! Did you kill him, cause i would have. Now that he’s on leave you should make the most of it and get those sleep in you so desperatley need and want!!!

  3. Don’t worry, he paid for it! I managed quite a few sleep-ins after this stunt :)
