Silence

April 21, 2009

I have heard the saying, ‘Silence is golden,’ but silence isn’t peaceful it’s terrifying. Silence means that little ones are completely absorbed in what they are doing, silence means little ones aren’t easy to track, silence means mischief is being made.

Never is this more certain than when Squirm is silent. Usually she will wander around singing or grunting but when there is no noise she is either asleep or she is in trouble. Not the kind of trouble where she wants help but the kind of trouble where she doesn’t want anybody to find her before she finishes her dastardly deed.  The other day there was silence and I noticed too late. I began my hunt, she wasn’t in the loungeroom, she wasn’t in the kitchen, she wasn’t in her bedroom. Eventually I found her in the toilet (room not bowl) pointing into the toilet where she had dropped a spoon. No, silence isn’t golden it is terrifying.
