My Little Parrot
Though not entirely articulate, Milla has some new words. We are able to understand the usual first words: mum, dad, nan and now added extras like: ball, bottle, dog, woof, hello and bye.
The ones we were taken aback by were the not so nice ‘words’ that friends and family have offered while in her presence, and to our horror Milla has learnt the art of repetition.
The other day in the doctors surgery we were told Milla had bronchiolitis and my husbands immediate response was not so lovely and it was repeated by our little parrot then and there. The doctor was in fits of laughter. Encouragement was not what I had expected from him, nor appreciated at that point.
I decided that a dollar jar would be necessary. Anyone uttering ‘words’ – even if they weren’t repeated by Milla – would have to donate a dollar in the jar that would go towards a proper education for her in later life.
A few days later whilst on our daily walk, we passed by the construction site for the new shops and ‘words’ were shouted from every angle. This time there was repetition heard from the pram. I stopped and kindly asked for dollars for my dollar jar and once I had explained, I walked away five dollars richer and with many apologies.
Even though I have a lovely little nest egg formulating, I certainly have a preference for a little lady.
I am hopeful the level of the jar remains the same for some time!
