Exhaustion

February 24, 2009

Sometimes life is all under control; the kids are in a good routine, the house is staying reasonably clean, I’m being productive with my time and then sometimes life is not. Now is one of those times. I feel as if I am getting swamped, life is rushing by and I’m just struggling to keep up with everything. The kids are fine, Squirm is almost walking and I am about to claim a victory in the toilet training stakes with Wrigglebot. I am just exhausted all the time (when I say all the time, I really mean all the time).

I struggle to sleep, whatever the hour, the other day I lay in bed until 4am with serious sleep envy of Husband who was snoring away. I considered getting up and cleaning the house but things have to be really bad for me to do that and I did really want to sleep. So in an effort to gain more energy, and hopefully sleep better, I am exercising more and contemplating starting to drink coffee. In some ways I think it would be easier to have a child waking in the night so there would be a reason for my insomnia and a time when I could look forward to it ending.

So until I have energy again I’m going to talk myself into it and pretend, just don’t yawn in front of me because no amount of will power will be able to stop me from joining you and continuing all day long.

  1. The other day I saw two kids racing on their bikes to get home before it got dark, as I’m sure their mother instructed them to do. I commented on this to my husband which sparked a discussion on how simple life was as a child.
We came to the conclusion that we take on too much as adults and put too much pressure on ourselves to be perfect – as if there isn’t enough pressure from every other facet of life.
I too have insomnia and no amount of night waking is making me feel better for it. Maybe we just need to slow down a bit, take time to smell the roses and enjoy the simple things in life once again.

  2. Coffee to help you sleep?! Are you sure about that?

I empathise greatly with that kind of tiredness and know it well. I will do my best to restrain my yawns in front of you (strangely enough I yawned twice as I was typing that…just as well you couldn’t see them).

Hope you can rest up this Wednesday. Sometimes a change of scene helps!

  3. I can certainly relate to this at the moment…

  4. Well it certainly makes me feel better to know that I am not alone in wishing we had a siesta style culture. And to clarify the coffee would be to give me energy during the day, I would welcome any other suggestions.

  5. vitamins. get involved in something that makes you feel good. um. find the secret and ever elusive fountain of energy. walk. meditate or otherwise involve yourself in quiet activities. find the treasure map which leads to the fountain of goodsleep. I dunno. I’m stumped.
