Two.
I naively thought that two little ones couldn’t be that much harder than one, I was wrong. It’s like they get together and plot to tag team their naps so one is always awake and demanding attention. And then there are the shopping trips, these are the steps to get into the shopping centre:
- Park the car, near a trolley bay and hopefully with no cars in adjoining parks which gives added space for maneuverability.
- Put ‘Baby Bjorn’ on and get Squirmalot out of the car and into ‘Baby Bjorn’
- Dash to the trolley bay select a suitable trolley (clean and with decent steering) this needs to be done whilst continuously glancing back at the car to make sure Wrigglebot is not being kidnapped.
- Take trolley back to the car, take Wrigglebot out of the car and put him into the trolley.
- A tricky step now, the car needs to be locked and the nappy bag taken out, this seems easy but trolleys don’t come with brakes and oftentimes carparks are on a bit of a slope. I keep imagining Wrigglebot careening down into shop windows while I calmly get out the nappy bag unaware of the runaway trolley.
Finally I am ready to go with Sqirmalot snuggled to my chest, Wrigglebot in the trolley and shopping list in hand. This process is difficult enough but is compounded with a whiny or crying toddler or baby, an uncooperative trolley, a phone call, bad weather or any number of other circumstances that seem to come and thwart my best efforts. And then there is the process to actually shop, to get everyone and shopping back in the car and back home and inside. I’m exhausted just thinking about it, maybe it can wait till Husband is home and can stay with the kids.
