Top 10 things to enjoy about being pregnant.

November 5, 2007

There is a lot to hate about being pregnant but there are also a few things to enjoy. I thought that I would struggle to come up with 5 but here are my top 10 things to enjoy about being pregnant.

  1. Being able to suspend the gym membership without guilt.
  2. Being able to eat anything and blame it on cravings (not that I really believe in cravings but I am willing to keep the illusion up for the good of all pregnant women everywhere.)
  3. Saving money on clothes because nobody wants to go shopping for clothes when they look like they have an oversized watermelon stuffed down their top.
  4.  Being able to do absolutely nothing yet at the same time be completely productive. I read somewhere that in the first trimester you expend as much energy as a mountain climber so at times I am quite content to sit back and mountain climb away.
  5. Thinking of names for the baby and shocking relatives with prospective names.
  6. Feeling the baby move and your stomach contort.
  7. Being part of a life giving process which is pretty amazing.
  8. Getting caught up on all the celebrity gossip of a month or a year ago as I sit in doctors’ waiting rooms reading old magazines.
  9. Having really bizarre dreams.
  10. The anticipation, not of the birth, but of new life and the possibilities that that life contains. (Also the anticipation of pregnancy ending).

  1. I really didn’t enjoy being pregnant; But you’re right, For me there was nothing better or funnier than having a really cold drink and seeing my belly move around. I always imagined my bubs trying to get away from the ‘cold’…Maybe that was cruel; But I loved it! Now that he is here, I am cherishing every moment that I spend with him – yes, even at 6am when he has awoken every hour since 4am (like last night!) – But motherhood is great!
Looking forward to reading your blog about your new baby girl!

  2. re # 4… cf. being very busy and quite unproductive (not counting the whole sustaining a little life part of being busy) after having the baby.
