To tell or not to tell?

May 26, 2007

I find it really interesting to see at what stage people tell friends that they are pregnant. Some people tell before the urine is even dry on the test, others wait until there is no disguising their protruding belly. Me, myself, I think that I am somewhere in the middle. I can imagine it would be incredibly hard to have told everybody and then miscarry in the early stages, but then again the support may be worth it. And it is awfully nice to share the excitement straight away.

Those who wait a long time can find themselves in the awkward situation of people already knowing, having observed their changing shape and changed behaviour and eating patterns. One of the added bonuses of telling people later, I have found, is escaping two extra months of banal pregnancy conversations, ‘Oh, you are starting to pop out now,’ ‘Starting to go to the toilet a lot?’ And ‘Are you sure you should be eating that/ doing that?’

So in the end I decided that when you have been feeling as sick as a dog for two months and you have a nine month old to take care of the wisest decision is probably just to tell people so you can get help.  I am pregnant, due at the end of the year and there will be eighteen months between Wrigglebot and this next one.

  2. Congratulations ‘Chelle’ and ‘Husband’! It’s hard when babies are close in age while they are little but there’s nothing better for them as they grow up. I had two beautiful daughters close in age – a little over 15 months apart – and they have always been the best of friends – and always will be.
I am so looking forward to being Nanna for the second time! Bring on December!!!

  3. In all the excitement I forgot to say that please just tell us – the sleaps – how to help. Not having been there we’re not really sure what to do but if it’s a meal, cleaning a toilet, babysitting, or just sitting around while you have a sleap – we’re there…we may just need some prompting :)

    We are so excited.
