The swimming adventure.

May 21, 2007

Wrigglebot had a swimming lesson on Saturday morning so Husband volunteered to take him seeing as he doesn’t usually get to go. I still had to go, it would be a bit much to expect Husband to coordinate changing Wrigglebot as well, so he did the swimming and I did the changing. I was astonished to see Husband nervous and completely out of his comfort zone.

Husband has always had this theory that he would talk to Wrigglebot as if he could understand everything, definitely not in baby talk. So, from about three weeks Wrigglebot has been getting lectures on the Theory of Relativity and every throw in the air where Wrigglebot is giggling with glee is accompanied by an explanation of gravity. This being said Husband found it very difficult to be told by a hyperactive teenager (instructor) to sing a song, say a rhyme and lose his dignity.

It did not help that the father next to him, an overweight plumber with a deep bass voice, had no problem with ’1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive…’ He even knew all the words which Husband did not. I think Husband felt a little intimidated by this speciman of fatherhood next to him who could sing so deeply, knew all the words and throw his child up twice as high as he could. In the end though all had a good time and Husband is determined that next time before he goes to a swimming lesson he will study up on all of the rhymes and children’s songs.
