Mr Wrigglebot and his unending quest for food.

April 26, 2007

Mr Wrigglebot has no problem eating. From the first time that we put food near him he opened his mouth and devoured it. Then he cried for more and this was at 5 months. Now he has a huge appetite and although my Maternal and Child Health Nurse said to feed him until he refuses food which is then the right amount of food for him, he has never refused food. I was feeding him two weetbix for breakfast but then I decided that I had to draw the line somewhere two weetbix is a little excessive so he has been downgraded to one and a half which is still a huge amount for a little boy. He is on three big meals a day and he would easily eat more if I gave it to him.

Now I think it is great that he is such a good eater, and he will eat anything, however, I do get a little frustrated when it is impossible for me to eat anything without little hands pulling at my plate and trying to steal food from out of my hands. Even if I am drinking he will want it. It has gotten to the stage where I hide my food behind my back and quickly tuck it into my mouth when he isn’t looking. And then it just gets worse when we go out to a restaurant and there is a whole table full of food to try and snatch and eat, particularly if there are no high chairs and so he is on my lap.

At first it was a bit cute now it is most definately not. He has developed stealth like abilities, an iron fist and a mouth that will not open to allow a probing finger to prise out the choking hazard that is adult food. So for now I must match him, stealth for stealth ,or at least eat my meals during his naps.

  1. But Chelle, he looks at you with those little eyes that remind me of Tammy, our cocker spaniel, who when we were eating would sit at our feet and look up with those droopy eyes as if to say ‘how can you eat that and not give me some too?’
It did, however, get embarrassing when we had visitors – and she would do the same to them, causing them to go on a guilt trip for enjoying a meal!…..And yes, you were a picky eater – you probably had to swallow each mouthful three times before it would stay down when you had something you didn’t like but your father was brought up with … if you don’t like it, I will give you twice as much so that you get used to it … (I think that’s how it went)!! It paid off in the long run – I think you eat most foods now – except maybe sprouts!!
