Going away (if it all fits in the car).

June 29, 2007

It used to be simple to get away for a few days, all I had to do was think about what I needed and quickly pack it. I am not your typical girl, I pack light and make do with what I have. I remember when I was first married I still had the mentality that I only needed to pack my stuff, so I was extremely organised, got my linen, towels everything. When we got to our destination Husband turned to me and said, ‘Do you have my pillow slip and towel?’ Honestly it had never crossed my mind that I was responsible for packing those things for him but I quickly learnt and adjusted.

Now I am contemplating going away with Husband and Wrigglebot for a week and the list of things that I need to take just keeps growing, I am beginning to doubt it will fit in our boot. I need the porta-cot, the pram, nappies, wipes, the vaporiser, toys, books and that isn’t even half of it. I also need the just in case items, the panadol, dimetapp, bonjella, extra warm clothes, clothes for the wet, a bamix in case the food isn’t baby friendly. All this is just for Wrigglebot then I still need to think about Husband who always says he will pack his own stuff but really that means he will pack his computer and music (thank goodness for IPods these days, now we can forego the stack of CDs we used to have to take), that seems to be all that is really necessary for Husband when we go away. And finally I need to think about what I need. I’m beginning to think that lighter is better, even lighter than  usual, in reality this will mean one change of clothes and my toothbrush. I think that is all we will have room for once Wrigglebot who is the smallest in our family has taken up 90% of our luggage room.
