Becoming Mr Bracks.

October 4, 2007

I think I would like to have Steve Bracks’ new job, $100 000 a year to work one day a week advising at an accounting firm. Now don’t get me wrong I am not begrudging Mr Bracks his job I would just like one day to be in a similar situation. So it got me thinking, what would I need to do to get myself to that position by the time I was 45 and how could I go about it?

I would need:

  1. Contacts with people in power; (At the moment my contacts consist of nurses, teachers and the average joe, so I have the working class roots, however this will need to be enhanced by contact with celebrities, politicians and CEO’s. Action- Perhaps a letter writing campaign supplemented with carefully staged appearances on game shows.)
  2.  Influence; (I have huge influence over my little boy and Husband, I feel this is a good training ground that will serve me well as my world expands in due time- refer to above point.)
  3. A track record of management on a large scale; (Small scale, this is definitely my area of weakness I need to increase organisational skills although I must say I don’t know how Mr Bracks would go organising bath time and dinner and bed for a fourteen month old Wrigglebot. So perhaps I may be worth about $60 000.)
  4. Good PR; (I am such a nice person I don’t think I would have any problem with this)
  5. An unshakable confidence (arrogance?) in my worth. (I am a mum, I have no problem with knowing my worth, all I have to do is look at my little Wrigglebot and then I know how much I am needed for much of his physical and emotional needs. All I need now is for the rest of society to also recognise my worth and not only my worth but that of all mothers.)

So I don’t think I am that far off, perhaps I could even get there before 45. I wouldn’t actually need any accounting experience would I?

One Response to “Becoming Mr Bracks.”

  1. i won’t be quoting my source, but Bracksy is actually working in the consulting department of said accounting firm where his role is to advise their clients, so in answer to your question, no you don’t need any accounting experience! I have also heard it may count against said accounting/consulting firm to have taken such a blatantly political approach! having said that i’m resplendent in my Kevin 07 shirt today. bring on political statements i say!
