A day at the beach.

October 22, 2007

On Saturday Wrigglebot had his first beach experience. It was a balmy 25 degrees in Melbourne so perfect weather for when you have a little boy who squirms when you try and put sunscreen on.  I was thinking we could go to a bay beach with gentle waves but Husband was adamant, Wrigglebot’s first trip to the beach would be to a surf beach so off we headed to Torquay.

It is interesting thinking of what it would be like to see things for the first time. Miles of sand would seem to be thousands of sandpits all joined together and the sea, well that would have to be a massive bath. I can’t imagine seeing the vastness of it all for the first time. He saw so many new things like kites and planes and seaweed and waves, I think it may have been a bit of a sensory overload.

He played in the sand and ate it and then he discovered the water with Husband. It must be noted here that it is still only October and the water is freezing. He walked toward the water, felt it rush onto his toes and a big smile appeared on his face. He let go of Husband’s hand and walked into the next wave, fell over, face planted in the sand, he came up with sand all over his face and right then a wave came along, he was submerged but came up laughing. Within fifteen minutes he was shaking he was so cold but he still didn’t want to get out. Needless to say we bundled him up, he played for a bit longer in the sand, ate some more sand, and then we headed home. He slept all the way home.
